![]() Malagasy Taxon B This is one of the tail bones from a newly discovered long-necked dinosaur from Madagascar. The dinosaur is so brand new that it hasn’t even been named yet, and is known so far from only a few vertebrae like this one, and a part of the shoulder. It is a member of the group of dinosaurs known as “titanosaurs,” which survived until the end of the age of dinosaurs, 65 million years ago. Curator’s pickI chose this bone because it is one of the best examples of where our paleontology program, and my own research, are headed into the future. Paleontology has been a hallmark of the museum since it’s very beginning 100 years ago, and we’re still going strong, making important discoveries, asking big questions, and taking our research to an international scale.
