Mrs. Magnus Jemme collected these baby moccasins in Montana in 1925. She was there on assignment painting American Indian people for the Great Northern Railroad Company. The Railroad regularly used artist paintings for publicity, specifically for Glacier National Park.
Curator's pickLooking at these moccasins always makes me smile. I’ve never encountered another pair like them, since the body of the shoe is uniquely constructed out of the feet of a porcupine. I like to imagine the fun a toddler must have had running and dancing in them.
